12th November 1844 Midland Railway gave notice to make a Railway from Lincoln to Ely with a branch to Holbeach. London Gazette, 12 November 1844, page 3880.



3rd November 1852 Norwich & Spalding Railway gave notice to incorporate a company and make railways:
  1. Railway No.1 from two junctions with the Great Northern Railway at or near Winsover Road, Spalding, to Sutton Bridge,
  2. Railway No.2 from Sutton St Mary (Long Sutton) to a junction with the East Anglian Railway in Wisbeach
  3. Railway No.3 from a junction with the East Anglian Railway in Gaywood to a junction with Railway No.1 (above) on the west side of Sutton Bridge.
  4. also:
  5. To purchase the Cross Keys Bridge and enlarge the bridge as necessary,
  6. To grant running powers over the East Anglian Railway between Wisbeach ad King’s Lynn, and between King’s Lynn and East Dereham,
  7. To grant running powers over the Norfolk Railway between East Dereham and Norwich Victoria.

4th August 1853 Royal assent given to Norwich & Spalding Railway Act RM 1898-8.

9th November 1858 Norwich & Spalding Railway gave notice to make railway extending the line from Holbeach to Sutton Bridge. London Gazette, 30 November 1858, page 5230.
15th November 1858 Spalding No.1 to Holbeach opened for traffic. RM 1936-9.

13th August 1859 Royal assent given to Norwich & Spalding Railway Act authorising the extension from Holbeach to Sutton Bridge. London Gazette, 16 August 1859, page 3110.
12th November 1861 Norwich & Spalding Railway gave notice to make railways:
  1. Railway No.1 from Sutton St Mary (Long Sutton) to a junction with the East Anglian Railway near Wisbeach station and a junction with the Eastern Counties Railway at Wisbeach,
  2. Railway No.2 a tramway from the station yard at Sutton Bridge to a point a quarter of a mile below the Cross Keys Bridge.

1st July 1862 Holbeach to Sutton Bridge opened for traffic. RM 1936-9.

1st November 1862 Norwich & Spalding Railway gave notice to:
  1. Authorise the Great Northern Railway to contribute funds,
  2. To enable the Great Northern and Norwich & Spalding to enter into working agreements,
  3. To allow lease or sale to the Great Northern Railway.

12th November 1862 Norwich & Spalding Railway gave notice to:
  1. Make a Railway from Sutton St Mary (Long Sutton) to a junction with the East Anglian Railway in Wisbeach,
  2. To enable the Great Northern Railway to contribute towards the cost,
  3. To enable the Great Northern and Norwich & Spalding to enter into working agreements.

5th July 1865 Royal assent given to Great Northern Railway (Junctions) Act which authorised additional tracks for the March line from near the Bourn Road Crossing to near Pinchbeck Road Crossing. The junctions with the Norwich & Spalding Railway was not to be altered without the express consent in writing of the Norwich & Spalding Railway.
Also to make a new crossing of Bourn Road and divert an unamed road. Will need to check deposited plan to see which road.
Note: Bourn Road Crossing later renamed Winsover Road Crossing.
Act of Parliament
6th July 1866 Agreement that the line from Lynn to Bourn known as the Midland & Eastern will be worked by the Midland and Great Northern Railway companies. Eastern & Midlands (Extensions) Act 1888.
23rd July 1866 Royal assent given to Midland and Eastern and Norwich and Spalding Act which confirmed the agreement of 6 July 1866. Act of Parliament
August 1867 Midland & Eastern Railway took over working the railway. Warren
